Curiosity. Confusion. Suspicion. And then, pure and utter delight.
Rhys’s first encounter with solid food proved more entertaining than I could have ever imagined. As interested in food as he’s been for several weeks now, he was totally unprepared for the bang of flavor that is mashed banana. He took his first bite with vigor, then retreated with uncertainty as the sweetness of banana overtook his tiny palate. The second spoonful was eaten begrudgingly, the third, refused.
Thirty minutes later, we popped Rhys back into his Bebe Pod for act II of Banana Bonanza. This time, Rhys knew what was in store for him, and could hardly contain his excitement. Bite three, done. Bite four, swallowed. And after bite five, Rhys was diving towards the each spoonful like an ocean bird plucking a fish from the sea. The boy was transformed. A banana enthusiast. Or, perhaps a more fitting term might be freak. He is a banana FREAK. He whined while the spoon went back into the bowl, then squealed as it traveled toward his mouth, then cooed as he munched away. Maniac. A total maniac. I have created a monster, rather a munch-ster. I can hardly wait to see how he reacts to the next menu item…
