I am very grateful for the Silver Lake Branch library. Firstly, it’s beautiful–modern architecture with clean lines. It’s full of wondrous books and media. And best of all, it’s within walking distance from our house.
Yes, it’s frowned upon to speak above a whisper in the library. My son, the squealer, didn’t adhere to that rule. Rhys was so excited to be at the library. He stared with intent at book spines, intrigue in his eyes. We sprawled out in the children’s section and read a book in Spanish about a tiny spider. Rhys laid on the brightly colored carpet, grinning at me as I read to him. He squeaked with joy. We looked at books about dinosaurs, farm
animals, the constellations in the night sky. His eyes bright and full of wonder, we wandered back through the stacks toward the exit, Rhys beaming the whole way. I can only imagine how much fun it will be for him when he’s a bit older.
