Rhys is pretty into eating now. He’s really getting the hang of it, and he’s having a blast. Well, I should clarify: he’s having fun whether food is being spooned into his mouth or not. His newest game is ‘let’s chew on the bib’. Between bites, the bib is in the mouth, sometimes for a moment, sometimes for minutes. When he’s wearing a cloth bib, it’s great. The dribbles of banana on his face magically disappear. What a self-sufficient guy. Sure makes my job easier.
After the first few days of solid food, I thought a slick, wipeable bib might be a better choice, repelling water and moisture, therefore preventing clothing from getting wet or messed. What an invention! Unless, of course, your baby likes to suck on the bib. The habit has turned from self-cleaning to self-messing. Melon that has been slobbered onto the bib now ends up on his ear. Or cheek. Or hair. Oh boy. Now what? Damned if you do, damned if you don’t. I guess the bottom line is that feeding a six month old is a messy job, no matter what.
